Mentoring someone who is also your boss costs you twice.

You do it because you believe in her.

I believed the work belonged to everyone who touched it.
I was wrong.
The word they used was rogue.
She hid behind it. Feigned not knowing.
The trust I extended became the ammunition.
I understood what was happening.
And, her education kept coming.
She left six months later.

Residue is not clean.

The gesture was real. The protection was never coming.
Reclaiming it matters. Even without names.
